Local Unit # 2.6.18

Welcome!  Look inside for information related to the activities of the Newcastle Elementary PTSA - a non-profit organization which supports the children of Newcastle Elementary in the Issaquah School District.

Through-out the school year, we sponsor several family events and student programs for our school families. We hope that all of our families will get involved by:

§  Attending PTSA events

§  Helping children participate in our educational programs

§  Volunteering time and talents in the classroom, at the school, and for PTSA supported activities

§  Becoming a member of the PTSA!

Be sure to check our calendar for information on PTSA meetings (please join us!), events, and activities.  You will also find information on becoming a member and volunteering.  If you need more information about the school, you can find a link to the school and district websites.

If you have any questions or comments, please contact us - we are interested in hearing from you!

Congratulations Golden Acorn Award Winners!

As many of you are aware it takes numerous volunteers to organize, manage and run the many wonderful programs offered here at Newcastle Elementary.  Each year our PTSA awards a Gold Acorn to individuals who have gone above and beyond in providing outstanding service to children in our school community through their active participation in the PTSA, the School, the District and the Community.  Please help me congratulate this year’s Gold Acorn recipients, Lynne Hepp and Edana Peacock.

Lynne Hepp has been a constant at Newcastle Elementary since she and her family moved to the area 4 years ago. She has been in charge of preparing the school directory, started the school supply kit program, chaired Polar Express, helps in her children’s classrooms, chaperones fieldtrips, assists with art docent projects, and served on many other committees and steps in to help when she sees a need, even if she didn’t originally volunteer to do so. This year Lynne took on a leadership role by agreeing to be the PTSA Co-President. What she didn’t realize at the time is that her partner would be elected to the School Board and she would be leading the team alone. Lynne has taken on the added responsibility with the grace in which she tackles everything.  She has worked very hard to make the transition seamless. When she isn’t at Newcastle Elementary, she can be found at Maywood volunteering for walkabout, attending PTSA Council meetings, Honking and Waving in support of 2010 Issaquah School District levy, helping at her children’s swim meets and chauffeuring the “swim taxi”.

Edana Peacock has taken an active role in the school and PTSA each year her children have attended Newcastle Elementary.   Most of you know Edana for her exemplary job with Co-Chairing our Newcastle “Imagine” auction which netted in excess of $110,000.  This year, she took the leap to the Executive Committee as Co-VP of Ways & Means overseeing 12 fundraising programs and school services.    On top of this important and busy role, she also is the 2009-2010 Newcastle year book Chair, consistently volunteers in her daughter’s classroom, helps run an advanced math group for the 2nd grade and volunteered for Vision and Hearing screening.   She also volunteered at the district level by participating in the “Honk & Wave” which was instrumental in passing the Issaquah School District levy for 2010.  In addition to all that she contributes to Newcastle Elementary, she also finds time to volunteer at the community level.  The Stroum Jewish Community Center, awarded Edana “Volunteer of the Year 2009”.  Her duties included: 2009 Aquatic Committee Chair where she helped raise funds for the installation of a slide for the pool, volunteered to clean the JCC kitchen for a 2 week period for kosher inspection and was the 2009 Co-Chair of the Mitzvah Committee (a Humanitarian Committee).    She also acts as the 2009 Bowen College Alumni Class agent for Fundraising.

Thank you ladies for graciously volunteering your time to the students and faculty at Newcastle Elementary. You make us proud!
